Celtics Eye Ben Simmons, Interested in Kuminga, Cavs Could Trade for Dean Wade

Free agency has mostly quieted down—aside from a few restricted free agents stuck in limbo—and Summer League is officially wrapped up. But the NBA rumor mill is still active as teams look for ways to improve ahead of training camp.

Here are the latest updates from around the league:

Celtics Showing Interest in Ben Simmons

Hall of Famer Marc Stein reports that the Boston Celtics are among several teams interested in former All-Star Ben Simmons.

“League sources say that the Suns have also had some recent dialogue with former All-Star Ben Simmons, who I’m told has drawn interest since free agency began from Boston, New York and Sacramento.”

With Jayson Tatum sidelined for the upcoming season, the Celtics lack a true defensive stopper on the wing. Simmons’ size and defensive versatility could help fill that gap.

However, Simmons’ offensive limitations pose a challenge. Boston thrives on drive-and-kick three-point shooting, and Simmons’ lack of outside shooting could disrupt their spacing. If Boston makes a move, it may indicate a shift away from last season’s heavy three-point identity.

Suns Trying to Land Jonathan Kuminga

The Phoenix Suns are exploring a potential sign-and-trade for Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, per the Arizona Republic.

“The Suns have interest in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga… but are unlikely to land him because they lack the draft capital and assets to deliver in what would be a sign-and-trade for the Warriors.”

Kuminga’s athletic, downhill playstyle could complement Devin Booker’s on-ball scoring, unlike in Golden State’s Curry-led system.

Phoenix may try to package veterans like Royce O’Neale or Dillon Brooks, players who could fit Golden State’s win-now approach better than Kuminga—who Steve Kerr notably benched in the playoffs.

Cavs Could Trade Dean Wade Before He Hits Free Agency

According to Cleveland.com, there’s increasing chatter that the Cleveland Cavaliers may move forward Dean Wade, who is on an expiring contract.

Wade has been a plus-minus standout, with the Cavs going 88-37 in games he’s played over the past three seasons.

Cap constraints make it unlikely that Cleveland will retain him after this year, and multiple contenders—including the Dallas Mavericks—have expressed interest.

Dallas could benefit from Wade’s defense, floor-spacing, and rebounding, while Chicago is another potential fit as they explore roster moves around Josh Giddey’s looming extension.

Wade represents the type of low-cost, high-impact veteran that contenders covet—especially ahead of a bigger payday next summer.
